Big 3 to work together?

According to TechCrunch

"In an encouraging act of collaboration, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft announced tonight that they will all begin using the same Sitemaps protocol to index sites around the web. Now based at Sitemaps.org, the system instructs web masters on how to install an XML file on their servers that all three engines can use to track updates to pages. This should make it easier to get your pages indexed in a simple and standardized way."

The coming together for a unified standard is a great move. For users it means better search results. Search Engines wont be talking about their index size anymore. The key USP is going to be how they manipulate the data to make it relevant for the users. Google's Onebox results, froogle are only a few examples in play. There's much more creativity and innovation to come from this space.
